Jacket is bright and reflects well in low light when a source is shined in it. I have used it as an external shell during chilly or wet weather. I cycle regularly so having a bright high vis shell makes it safer when riding in traffic.
Only improvement would be a drawstring at the bottom of the jacket.
Jamestown Men's Reflective Jacket in Flo Lime
There’s no doubt about illumiNITE’s incredible visibility, especially if bicycling at night. I’ve used an illumiNITE jacket purchased from Performance Bike 15 or more years ago and love it. It’s state of wear and tear from many bicycle tours necessitated purchasing a new jacket so I checked out illumiNITE’s current offerings and opted for the Jamestown jacket. Upon receiving it I didn’t like its feel … almost like plastic, sort of brittle. That coupled with it not having any ventilation led me to believe it wouldn’t be a good cycling jacket for me (reason for 2 stars which may be a bit harsh) so I decided to return it. Hopefully the Rochester jacket I opted to exchange the Jamestown for will be better.
I’d recommend some ventilation be added to the Jamestown’s design, either using some mesh or arm pit zippers to allow for some air flow. I never wore the jacket riding since it was returned so maybe others will find it better suits their needs.
I use the Jamestown jacket jogging, riding my pedal bike and on my motorcycle. I modified the end of the sleeves with one wrap Velcro strips (glued on with "Shoe Goo" that is stronger than sewing) so I can zip my motorcycle jacket sleeves and then close up the ends of the sleeves on the Jamestown jacket. Checketts does well with all three applications. Most recently I was on the freeway at 90 and the jacket held up well. Took a motorcycle trip to a mountain town and as I walked around I received a comment that they could "See me!" because I was wearing the Jamestown jacket. I answered, "Good to be seen!" :-)
After a couple of weeks of use I'm happy with the Jamestown. It has great visibility day or night with excellent wind blocking. The material is quite stiff and not as form fitting as other jackets. The material does not transmit vapor well so you will get wet underneath on a long run. I was dubious when I first saw it but after 200 KM running I can highly recommend.
